I had a very good time offering these classes, and am very happy that I have these videos as a record of the fun that we had.

This is being done in order to provide learning opportunities with free graphics software. After reading this introduction, please register (for free) here to let us know you are coming.

Note that all workshops and software are FREE and that while laptops are highly suggested, they are not essential to participate.

Also, you can visit any or all of the workshops without missing anything. We will focus on a different project each time.

Who:

Everyone is welcome — students, teachers, homeschoolers, graphics enthusiasts, artists, designers, and anyone else who wants to learn something new. No previous knowledge of these tools is necessary.

What:

This is a free series of hands-on events to promote awareness about free graphics software, such as the the GNU Image Manipulation Program, which is a free, powerful  alternative to Adobe PhotoShop. There is also Inkscape, a free, sophisticated illustration program similar in functionality to Adobe Illustrator. Other software will be discussed and demonstrated as necessary.

When:

7 pm to 9 pm on the following evenings. It is recommended that you try to get to campus at 6:30 in order to find parking and get to the classroom. Each evening begins with an intro to the applications:

1. October 13th, GIMP layers, brushes, and effects — focus: posters
2. November 3rd, Inkscape paths, tracing, and effects — focus: logo
3. November 10th, GIMP layers, brushes, and effects — focus: advertisements
4. November 24th, Inkscape paths, tracing, and effects — focus: avatar
5. December 1st,  GIMP layers, brushes, and effects — focus: web page
6. December 8th, Inkscape paths, tracing, and effects — focus: internet memes

All of the sessions are independent of each other, with new content each time, and you may come to one or all as you wish, in any order. Please register, to let us know you’re coming: please register (for free) here

Where:

Memorial 310 at Rider University, Lawrenceville, NJ, 08648.

Note: Visitor Parking is on the far South end of campus, and it takes approximately 2-4 minutes to travel by foot to Memorial Hall, which is on the Northern edge of campus. We will try to have 1 or 2 volunteers to help direct you.

Why:

To show new and seasoned digital artists that they need not spend thousands of dollars, or steal software, in order to have powerful tools with which to create design. Each participant will receive a certificate of participation for each night they attend.

How:

The workshops will focus on a set of concepts in a particular application each week. Participants will bring their own laptops in order to work in the applications.
